Rat & Mouse Exterminators in Medford

The two most common rodents that homeowners have to deal with are rats and mice. Both of these pests have instincts that make them hard to control. They are classified as rapid breeders, which means they maintain their population through constant reproduction. In fact, one pair of mice can produce as many as 200 babies over a four month period. As they are building their nests to accommodate their colony, rodents are especially destructive and chew on anything available to them. Also, their body is capable of squeezing through spaces that would appear to be much too small for them, creating opportunities for missed access points.

The highly-skilled professionals at A-One Pest Control are well-trained in all aspects of locating and removing rodent nests. We are cautious of the potential injury that these pests can inflict with their sharp teeth and have the proper equipment to manage this problem. If you have seen a rodent in your home, contact A-One Pest Control immediately. This classification of pest can transfer bacteria, disease, and viruses through their feces, urine, and saliva and should only be handled by a professional.

What Are The Differences Between Mice And Rats?
The first difference between these two types of rodents is their size, mice are smaller at around 12cm to 20cm in length, whereas, rats can grow up to 40cm. Mice are typically white, gray, or brown in color and have long, this, hairy tails. Rats are usually white, gray, or black and their tail is hairless and scaly. While a mouse’s snout is long and pointy, a rat will have a more blunt snout.

What Are Signs of a Rat Infestation?
Because of their size and their nesting behaviors, they can quickly compromise the structure of the home they have infested. Rats are nocturnal and secretive in behavior, when their population is low it is highly unlikely to see them. While their preference is to stay hidden, if you do observe one in plain sight, chances are an infestation already exists. When the population of the colony gets too big, rats become territorial and violent, pushing weaker rats out in to the open and away from the protection of the colony. Aside from actually seeing a rat, sign of an infestation include rat droppings and dirt or grease marks on walls and floorboard from crawling.

What Are Signs of a Mouse Infestation?
Although mice prefer to be more active in the evening, it is possible to see them roaming around your house during the daytime, most often along the walls and baseboards. Without actually seeing a mouse, another sign that you may have them in your home is seeing their droppings. Mouse droppings are typically 3mm to 6mm long and rod shaped with pointed ends, they are typically found anywhere a mouse has been. Because mice are known for their propensity to chew on everything, seeing debris and shavings around your home is another sure sign of a mouse infestation.

How Are Mouse and Rat Infestations Treated?
Once an infestation is established in your home, the only effective control measures are those administered by trained professionals. Because mice and rats can adjust their bodies to fit through holes much smaller than they are, all cracks, crevices, holes, and gaps larger than a pen cap should be sealed off with cement. Because mice and rats have sharp teeth and enjoy chewing on things, it is not advised to block these access points with anything made of wood or plastic.
