Different Types of Ants: Common Species that Can Invade Your Home

A-One Exterminators

AntsAnts as house pests are not often as disgusting as other pests that can invade your homes like cockroaches and rodents. However, ants are still some of the most common headache causing pests because of the damage that they can do to your food and your house’ structure.

Thus, it is important that when you notice an ant infestation starting whether in your pantry, attic, or even in your lawns and gardens, you should take action immediately and start looking for ways to eliminate them. Before that though, you may want to know what type of ant you are dealing with, since some species may require some special sort of pest control method in order to be removed effectively and completely.

Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants are pretty large, with some growing up to about 15 mm long. Although most of them are black, there are some that may be red or yellow colors. These particular types of ants prefer to make their nests and colonies in moist or damp areas outside homes like rotting trees or wood. They then enter your homes through cracks and holes, and can severely damage your homes as they bore tunnels through your house’ wooden structures.

Argentine Ants
In contrast to Carpenter Ants, Argentine Ants are quite small as they grow to less than 3 mm in size and have a light to dark brown colors. Small as they are, they are some of the more resilient ant species and are able to survive in many different places. They usually make their nests in wet and damp areas, especially those which are near food sources, like in the soil under houses.

Odorous House Ants
Odorous House Ants are named so because of the foul odor that they emit, which is one reason why you would want to get rid of them immediately. Their nests are typically found outdoors, but when rainy days come and the food sources there are pretty low, they usually go inside homes and make their nests on walls and floors
Personally trying to identify these different types of ants can be quite challenging, so it is a good idea to call on a house pest specialist to help you in identifying and getting rid of these pesky crawlers.
