How Do You Know You Have Pests

A-One Exterminators

Having pests is not fun. Pests try to enter your home year-round. Sometimes they are obvious and sometimes they are not. Here are some things to watch out for if you think you have a pest problem.

Smells

Pest infestations can cause your home to smell strange. The smell can come from droppings, rotten food they could not finish, or even rodents themselves, dead from poisons or natural causes. If you start to smell something off and can’t easily find the source, you might have pests.

Sounds

Most pests, especially rodents such as mice, are nocturnal. This means they do their work at night. If you hear squeaking, scratching, and running noises at night, you definitely have a rodent problem.

Droppings

Pests leave behind fecal droppings and urine trails. Depending on the characteristics of the droppings, you might be able to figure out what you are dealing with. Insects leave behind minuscule droppings, while rodents leave behind bigger droppings. Rodents try to travel where they won’t be seen, so look for droppings along walls, in between appliances and boxes, and under furniture.

Damaged Fabrics

Rodents such as mice need materials to make their nests. They will steal it from piles of blankets, couches, and clothing. Scratches, holes, stains, and tears are things to look for if you think you have a pest problem.

Nests

Speaking of damaged fabrics, finding nests made from those damaged fabrics is a guaranteed sign you have a pest problem. Once again, these little guys like to hide, so you may find nests in hidden places behind and between things that don’t move often and even inside the walls.
